Wouldn’t this be great for those of us that commute? Out in Oregon they are thinking about taxing drivers on a per mile basis. Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Hmmm...
"Transportation officials across the country are concerned about what's going to happen with the gas tax revenues." Privacy advocates say it's more like big brother riding on your bumper, not to mention a disincentive to buy fuel-efficient cars. If someone were to implement such a system, I would hope they would be smart enough to have a cut-off for less fuel efficient vehicles. It just makes sense when replacing gas tax with the milage tax. And the claim that it is a disincentive to buy fuel-efficient cars is silly. If everyone is paying the milage tax, then you'll still be saving money by not having to pay for extra fuel (I'm sure it will still be taxed). Personally, I think toll systems are still the best way to go... no one complains about big brother, and money for road works is derived from road use. Beyond this though, it makes the most sense to implement improved medium to long distance mass transit systems in this country. Aircraft are woefully over-priced and inefficient for regional transit... high speed trains are where it's at.

Trains rock
In fact, they rock my socks off. Damn, now my feet are getting cold. Curse you trains! Curse you! Besides... what other vehicle (besides a DeLorean) can fly and travel through time?
