Digging in the Dirt

Back in April and May I spent some quality time rebuilding our wheelbarrow. The tube went flat, and while repairable, the tire was extremely weather checked and worn. So I searched for replacements online only to discover it was more economical to replace the entire wheel assembly.

Fine.

So I removed the old wheel and tire and thought about just dropping the new wheel on, but I figured as long as I'm this far I could clean up the old handles which were cracked and growing lichen. And then once the handled were off I figured "why not knock off some rust and shoot some tractor paint on the bottom of the tub?" After all, the priginal blue paint had at this point almost completely flaked away. And at that point, it just became a long chain of "might as wells." Might as well soak the hardware in rust convertor and paint it. Might as well wire wheel and paint the interior of the tub too. Might as well repair the handles with epoxy fills. Etc...

In the end it was a fair amount of work, but I think it was worth the effort. I think it should give us another 15 years of service- and the paint job is pretty sweet.
